On July 23, 2025, Gävle-based HealthTextiles took another important step on the international stage when the European Patent Office (EPO) granted a patent for its groundbreaking product, TorTex fabrics, under the title “Novel Yarn and Fabric.”
This recognition from the European Patent Office, a strategically important market, underscores the company’s ability to navigate technical and regulatory landscapes in an innovative way.
Tomas Persson, founder and owner of HealthTextiles, expressed his joy and appreciation:
“We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone. A big thank you to our team and our partners, especially Chris Cadman and Sonja Hyvärinen at Potter Clarkson AB, who have been invaluable in this process. We would also like to once again thank Christian Krog-Jensen at Karolinska Innovation (now Investment Manager at Almi Invest Life Science) for introducing HealthTextiles to Potter Clarkson at a critical time when HealthTextiles needed to find a new full-service intellectual property firm.”
This strategic approach highlights the importance of careful communication and collaboration within international business dynamics, especially when it comes to managing intellectual property on a global scale.
The company’s successes in building its patent portfolio also reflect broader industry trends. Research shows that startups holding patents often have a higher probability of a profitable exit.
“Patents increase the likelihood of an exit, and the size of the patent portfolio also tends to lead to larger exits,” says Persson, emphasizing the importance of strategic intellectual property protection.
With a patent valid until 2038, HealthTextiles is well positioned for continued innovation and expansion. Its technological advancements in TorTex fabrics are intended to revolutionize both the healthcare and sports industries, paving the way for new applications and products that can actively improve people’s quality of life.
This latest success in Europe is not only a technical achievement but also an example of how thoughtful and effective collaboration and communication can lead to real business breakthroughs on the global stage.
