Hockey Great Ben Smith Joins HealthTextiles Advisory Board
HealthTextiles, a leading innovative manufacturer that combines the latest technologies with heritage craftsmanship for world-class production of performance sports garments and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), today announced that hockey great and olympic coach Ben Smith has joined the company’s Advisory Board.
The son of a U.S. Senator, Smith was a standout hockey player at Harvard University in the late 1960s. His late father, Benjamin Smith, served as a U.S. senator for two years, filling the spot of his close friend and Harvard classmate John F. Kennedy after Kennedy was elected president in 1960.
Serving as head coach of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team in 1998, 2002 and 2006, Smith also led Team USA to the first-ever gold medal in women’s hockey at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. He has been active with USA Hockey serving in a player evaluation role for many international teams, including the gold medal-winning 2017 U.S. National Junior Team, and was elected into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017 and the International Hockey Hall of Fame of 2016.
Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and decades of real world experience in sport to the company, and HealthTextiles is thrilled to welcome him as the newest member of the Advisory Board.
“We are very happy to have Coach Ben Smith on the HealthTextiles advisory board. He brings valuable experience from the sports industry, coaching and recruitment of sport talent that will help HealthTextiles navigate sport and culture,” says Tomas Persson, Chairman of the Board, Northeastern ’97 and MBA at Harvard Business School, class of 2004.
“I’ve known Health Textiles founder and owner Tomas Persson for three decades,” says Ben Smith. “I know firsthand the effort he puts into every project he undertakes. Joining the Health Textiles Advisory Board is a great honor and I’m looking forward to being part of an exciting team.”
Smith joins a distinguished group of global sport and healthcare leaders already on the company’s advisory team, including Frank Ehmer (Partner, Apax Partners), Hampus Rystedt (Senior Patent Attorney), Peter Landvall (PhD in Medical Microbiology), Rickard H Vogel (entrepreneur and investor), Anders Moberg (lawyer and partner, Cirio) and Mark Newman (COO, Nyobolt).
The company expects to announce additional members of the Advisory Board in the coming weeks.
